LIFE BEGINS OUTSIDE OF THE BOX WE BUILD FOR OURSELVES.
A socially withdrawn machine operator who has spent years engineering perfect outputs must overcome her fear of failure and uncertainty in her search for human connection.
Meg Riley once had big dreams. Now, she works alone as a machine operator and spends her nights surrounded by carefully organized routines that protect her from uncertainty and disappointment. When an eccentric librarian encourages her to break out of her self-imposed box, she witnesses a man unabashedly interviewing strangers in order to find the perfect chess partner. Inspired, Meg crafts her own compatibility interviews for potential boyfriends, convinced her scientific approach to life can take the uncertainty out of dating. Her experiment quickly falls apart, forcing Meg to confront a painful truth: She has spent years avoiding not only failure, but life itself. As a pivotal life decision looms, Meg must decide whether to remain safely boxed inside the comfortable world she's built, or risk it all for a future she can no longer predict, only experience.
OUR MISSION
Human connection and community are more important, now than ever, in the age of social media, AI, and instant connection online. When the algorithmically generated pool of content runs dry, and the monotony of daily life grows too great to bear, what left is there?

A laugh with a friend, a shared smile, a memory cherished with someone you care for... That's what it all comes down to. The constant dopamine rushes from immediate responses online make human interaction feel like a chore. It's easy to become complacent in your comfort zone.

With Unboxed film, we champion the importance of human interaction. Through multigenerational perspectives, we learn how media, community, and comfort zones have changed overtime. However, one thing stands the test of time: human connection is essential.

A socially withdrawn machine operator who has spent years engineering perfect outputs must overcome her fear of failure and uncertainty in her search for human connection.
